Friction to Unconfined Compression Strength Correlation for Evaluating Capacity of Weak Rock Foundation Sockets

نویسندگان

چکیده

Historically, deep foundations in weak rock have been designed as friction elements using frictional resistance (fs), calculated from the unconfined compressive strength (UCS) of rock. Most published correlations fs to UCS were developed based on load tests low-capacity piles specific geological conditions, values not necessarily representative over test depth. There is a large variation foundation design depths these correlations. This paper presents correlation between and rock, data 44 bidirectional high-capacity rocks. The dataset used this study, one largest for rocks, with high loads range 100–320MN depth mostly 20–87 m below ground level. Bi-directional La Maison tower site then simulated Plaxis, ultimate skin compared against new corelation. actual profile layout modelled Plaxis required derived recommended corelation, check serviceability limits. resulting maximum settlements are found be well within acceptable factor 0.5 thus estimating socket carbonate formations.

Determination of friction coefficient in unconfined compression of brain tissue.

Unconfined compression tests are more convenient to perform on cylindrical samples of brain tissue than tensile tests in order to estimate mechanical properties of the brain tissue because they allow homogeneous deformations. The reliability of these tests depends significantly on the amount of friction generated at the specimen/platen interface. Thus, there is a crucial need to find an approxi...

Predicting Unconfined Compressive Strength of Intact Rock Using New Hybrid Intelligent Models

Bedrock unconfined compressive strength (UCS) is a key parameter in designing thegeosciences and building related projects comprising both the underground and surface rock structures. Determination of rock UCS using standard laboratory tests is a complicated, expensive, and time-consuming process, which requires fresh core specimens. However, preparing fresh cores is not always possible, especi...

Unconfined creep compression of chondrocytes.

The study of single cell mechanics offers a valuable tool for understanding cellular milieus. Specific knowledge of chondrocyte biomechanics could lead to elucidation of disease etiologies and the biomechanical factors most critical to stimulating regenerative processes in articular cartilage. Recent studies in our laboratory have suggested that it may be acceptable to approximate the shape of ...

Strength evaluation of prosthetic check sockets, copolymer sockets, and definitive laminated sockets.

A prosthesis encounters loading through forces and torques exerted by the person with amputation. International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standard 10328 was designed to test most lower-limb prosthetic components. However, this standard does not include prosthetic sockets. We measured static failure loads of prosthetic sockets using a modified ISO 10328 and then compared them with t...

A new approach for assessing stability of rock slopes considering centroids of weak zones

The intersection lines between discontinuity surfaces and their intersection points on the visible surfaces of any engineering structure may be the instability indicators. This paper describes a new approach to modelling the intersecting lines and points that would provide the first evaluation of any instability in an engineering structure characterized by the failure modes. In this work, the i...
